Guide

Getting something out of academic events instead of just attending

Sessions, workshops and admission fairs are useful in proportion to what you prepare beforehand. Here is a short protocol that turns an afternoon into a decision.

Last reviewed by the Jenedu editorial team.

Before you register

  • Confirm the organiser and the exact venue or link. Verify admission fairs against the institution's own site.
  • Write the one question you want answered. If you cannot write it, the event is probably not worth the commute.
  • Check the timing against your study week. All times on Jenedu are Pakistan Standard Time.
Never pay a registration fee to a page you found through a forwarded message. Verify on the organiser's official website first.

During the session

  1. 1Take notes on decisions, not on definitions — definitions are searchable, decisions are not.
  2. 2Ask your prepared question early, before the queue forms.
  3. 3Collect exactly one contact and note where you met them and what they said.
  4. 4Photograph any eligibility slide; those details are hard to recover afterwards.

Within 24 hours

Write five lines: what you learned, what changed in your plan, what to verify, who to contact, and the next date that matters. Anything not written within a day is effectively lost.

What events cannot do

An admissions officer at a fair is not a guarantee, and a motivational session is not a study plan. Use events to narrow options and confirm requirements, then go back to the work — which is where results are actually produced.
